AGADU (Asociación General de Autores del Uruguay) is a non-profit collective management organization founded on 26 September 1929 in Montevideo, Uruguay. It is one of the oldest authors' societies in Latin America, established to protect and administer the intellectual property rights of Uruguayan creators across literary, musical, scientific and artistic fields. Its core mandate covers the licensing, collection and distribution of performing and mechanical royalties on behalf of its members.
AGADU is a full member of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) and of the Bureau International de l'Édition Mécanique (BIEM), giving it access to a global network of reciprocal representation agreements. Through these bilateral agreements, AGADU administers the Uruguayan rights of foreign repertoire while ensuring that its members' works are remunerated in countries worldwide.
Beyond rights administration, AGADU operates cultural infrastructure in Montevideo, including the Sala Blanca Podestá theatre and a documentation centre dedicated to Uruguayan creative heritage.
