AKM (Autoren, Komponisten und Musikverleger) is Austria's collective management organisation for performing rights in musical works. Founded on 5 December 1897, it is one of the oldest copyright societies in continental Europe, managing public performance, broadcasting and online making-available rights on behalf of composers, lyricists and music publishers.
AKM operates alongside its sister organisation austro mechana, which handles mechanical-reproduction rights and private-copying levies. Both are non-profit cooperatives that distribute revenues to members after operational costs, and their online repertoire has been licensed multi-territorially through the ICE hub since 2022.
The society was dissolved during the 1938 annexation of Austria and refounded as an independent cooperative in 1945. It is a full CISAC member, representing roughly 23,000 domestic rights holders and, through reciprocity, the international CISAC repertoire.
