About

Who is AMRA?

AMRA (American Mechanical Rights Agency) is a global digital music collection society. Originally incorporated in the United States, it was acquired by Kobalt Music Group in 2014 and relaunched as a full-scale digital collection society in June 2015. It was built on proprietary technology designed to maximize royalty collection for songwriters and publishers in the streaming era, and operates from offices in New York and London.

Unlike traditional performing-rights organizations that rely on bilateral society-to-society agreements, AMRA licenses directly into more than 200 territories outside the United States, using Kobalt's data platform to process and verify usage data from digital streaming services. It administers both mechanical rights (reproduction for digital streaming and downloads) and performing rights on behalf of its affiliated songwriters, composers and publishers, including major independent catalogues.

AMRA is a member of the International Confederation of Societies of Authors and Composers (CISAC) and adheres to CISAC's binding resolutions. Its founding leadership was drawn from senior figures of the international rights community, and its annual digital collections run into the hundreds of millions of dollars.
