The Bureau Burkinabè du Droit d'Auteur (BBDA) is a public professional establishment (établissement public à caractère professionnel) created in 1985 and headquartered in Ouagadougou. Its mandate is the protection and collective management of copyright for creators of literary and artistic works and neighboring rights holders, whether Burkinabè or foreign.
BBDA acts as intermediary between authors or their rights holders and users of literary and artistic works, collecting royalties from users and distributing them to rights holders. It also administers traditional cultural heritage expressions, provides legal advice on literary and artistic property, and supports social welfare programs for artists. The organization maintains regional offices including in Bobo-Dioulasso.
BBDA has been a member of CISAC since 1989 and is also a member of the International Federation of Reproduction Rights Organisations (IFRRO). Through CISAC membership, BBDA maintains reciprocal agreements with counterpart societies worldwide, enabling collection and transfer of royalties for Burkinabè creators whose works are exploited internationally, and vice versa.
