GHAMRO (Ghana Music Rights Organisation) was formed in 2011 under Section 49 of Ghana's Copyright Act 690 of 2005, succeeding the earlier Copyright Society of Ghana. It is the only music collective management organisation licensed and approved by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice to collect and distribute music royalties in Ghana, covering public performance, broadcast, mechanical, and (in some cases) synchronisation rights.
GHAMRO operates as a non-profit body representing composers, lyricists, publishers, and other music rights holders. It licenses music users — broadcasters, hotels, restaurants, event organisers — and distributes the collected royalties to its members and to foreign rights holders through reciprocal agreements with affiliated international societies.
