MESAM (Türkiye Musiki Eseri Sahipleri Meslek Birliği — Musical Work Owners' Society of Turkey) is the first collective management organization established in Turkey, founded on 11 August 1986 and operational from December 1986. Headquartered in Istanbul with an office in Ankara, it operates under Turkish Law No. 5846 on Intellectual and Artistic Works and administers both performing and mechanical rights for composers, lyricists, arrangers and music publishers.
MESAM is a member of CISAC and of BIEM, the international body for mechanical-rights societies. Through representation agreements with foreign copyright societies, it protects its members' rights in more than 100 countries. In 2021 MESAM and the other Turkish CMO, MSG, were temporarily suspended from CISAC over operational conflicts, and were reinstated following a cooperation protocol signed in 2022.
As Turkey's founding and largest musical-rights society, MESAM licenses music use across broadcasting, digital platforms, hospitality and public-performance venues. The 2022 cooperation protocol with MSG established a joint technical office to coordinate licensing, documentation and distribution, and introduced joint tariffs for the hospitality sector.
