SAMRO (Southern African Music Rights Organisation) is a non-profit copyright-administration society incorporated in December 1961 and commencing operations in January 1962 in Johannesburg, South Africa. It took over performing-rights administration from the UK's Performing Right Society, and converted to a non-profit company structure in 2013.
SAMRO administers performing rights exclusively — public performance, broadcasting, streaming and other licensed public uses of musical works — on behalf of its composer, author, lyricist and publisher members. It has been a member of CISAC since 1962 and has chaired CISAC's African Committee. As of its FY2025 reporting, it counted more than 28,000 members and distributed over R600 million in royalties.
