SCM (Sociedade Cabo-verdiana de Música) was established in 2013 and operates as a cooperative. It is Cape Verde's sole CMO, uniquely covering both copyright (authors' rights) and neighboring rights (performers and producers) within a single organisation. SCM implemented the WIPO Connect collective management system in 2020, made its first author rights distribution in 2020, and followed with its first neighboring rights distribution in 2021.
SCM became a member of CISAC in 2023, integrating into the global network of authors' societies. This membership enables reciprocal representation: through agreements with sister societies, SCM connects Cape Verdean music to international royalty collection.
SCM's membership stood at over 1,700 as of the most recent data. The organisation launched an online member portal in 2024 and opened a northern branch office in Mindelo in 2022. SCM also supported the successful UNESCO inscription of morna — Cape Verde's iconic musical form — as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2019.
SCM-COOPERATIVA is the collective management organisation for authors, composers and music publishers in Cape Verde, founded in 2013. It licenses the use of musical works, collects the royalties due and distributes them to its members.
