What is SOCAN?

The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada (SOCAN) is the main performance rights organization for songwriter, composers and music publishers in Canada. SOCAN represents more than 150 000 rights holders and music publishers in Canada, by managing performing and reproduction rights for their members, delivering licenses for performances and an A&R service dedicated mainly to record labels. SOCAN collects license fees through a music licensing program, approved by the Copyright Board of Canada.

Any commitment to SOCAN, however, is governed by your own agreement with SOCAN, not by us — that’s yours to negotiate directly with them.

Does Reprtoir set up my SOCAN account or support my SOCAN deal?

No. Reprtoir doesn’t introduce you to SOCAN or broker that relationship, and we don’t provide support for what happens on SOCAN’s side. Your SOCAN account, deal terms and any issues there are handled directly with SOCAN — Reprtoir looks after your catalog, delivery and reconciliation on your side.
