SOKOJ (Organisation of Music Authors of Serbia) was founded in 1950 by composers affiliated with the Association of Yugoslav Composers. It is registered as a non-profit collective management organization under Serbia's Copyright and Related Rights Act, operating from its headquarters in Belgrade.
SOKOJ administers the full spectrum of music copyright: performing rights (public performance, broadcasting, cable retransmission, satellite), mechanical reproduction rights and private-copying compensation. It has been a member of CISAC since 1956 and of BIEM since 1959, and has concluded more than 100 reciprocal representation agreements with foreign authors' societies.
The organization represents over 12,000 domestic music authors and, through reciprocal mandates, several million foreign rights holders. It issues licences to all categories of music users in Serbia and distributes royalties accordingly.
