STEF (Samband tónskálda og eigenda flutningsréttar) is Iceland's collective rights-management society for music creators and publishers, founded in 1948 on the initiative of composer Jón Leifs. It is a non-profit, member-owned organisation headquartered in Reykjavík and a member of CISAC.
Unlike CMOs in larger markets, STEF administers both performing and mechanical rights for its members, acting as a single point of contact for both royalty streams in Iceland. It licenses broadcasters, digital platforms, live venues and commercial establishments across the country, and distributes royalties to Icelandic rights holders as well as to foreign rights holders for international repertoire used in Iceland.
STEF is also one of the five co-owners of NCB, which centralises mechanical licensing across the Nordic region.
