TONO is Norway's performing-rights organisation, administering the public-performance and communication rights of musical works on behalf of composers, lyricists and music publishers. Founded on 27 November 1928, it is a member-owned, non-profit society headquartered in Oslo and a member of CISAC, with reciprocal agreements with around 60 societies worldwide.
TONO collects and distributes royalties for all public use of music in Norway — broadcast, digital streaming, live events and background music — for both Norwegian and international repertoire. Mechanical rights for the Nordic region are handled separately by NCB, of which TONO's member community is a stakeholder.
