UCMR-ADA is Romania's collective management organization for musical performing and mechanical rights. Its institutional roots trace back to the Society of Composers of Romania, founded in 1920 with George Enescu as president, and to Romania's entry into CISAC in the late 1920s. The current UCMR-ADA entity was constituted in 1996 following the adoption of Copyright Law 8/1996 and received official accreditation as a CMO in 1997.
UCMR-ADA administers both performing and mechanical rights on behalf of its members, who include composers, lyricists and music publishers. It licenses broadcast, public performance, online use and physical reproduction of musical works, collects the royalties due and distributes them to rights holders.
The organization is a member of CISAC, of BIEM for mechanical rights, and of GESAC, the European grouping of authors' and composers' societies, operating within the framework established by Romanian copyright law.
