KODA is the Danish collective management organisation that administers performing and mechanical rights on behalf of composers, songwriters and music publishers. Its roots trace to a 1935 agreement and concession granted by the Danish Ministry of Culture, and it has managed music rights in Denmark for close to a century. When a member's music is played in public, broadcast, streamed or performed at concerts, KODA licenses that use and collects the fees, then pays out the resulting royalties to the rightsholders. It is headquartered in Copenhagen and today represents more than 51,000 members in Denmark.
KODA operates as a non-profit that grants blanket licences to broadcasters, streaming services, venues, shops and restaurants, monitors usage and distributes the money collected to the rightsholders behind each work. It coordinates closely with its Nordic peers TONO (Norway) and Teosto (Finland) through the Polaris Nordic alliance, which pools technology and operations, and it is a member of CISAC, the international confederation of authors' societies, giving Danish members reciprocal representation abroad. In 2020, KODA reached a new Scandinavia-wide licensing agreement with YouTube after a dispute over royalty rates.
KODA's turnover reached DKK 1.218 billion in 2023, up 9% from DKK 1.118 billion in 2022, with DKK 1.127 billion distributed to rightsholders in Denmark and abroad. Growth was led by digital revenue: income from streaming, TV and film rose 38% to DKK 191 million, while international revenue grew 16% to DKK 107 million and concert revenue increased 9% to DKK 106 million. In its 2025 reporting, the organisation continued to post record collections, driven by streaming and live music.
